Must-have accessories for completing your bathroom
Friday, 11 May 2012 09:07There are so many finishing touches you can add to a bathroom it's easy to get caught up in the details, such as whether to invest in Cifial or Bristan taps. However, there are some accessories no washroom should be without, read on to find out more.
Taps
No bathroom would be complete without taps - leave them out and you will find it very difficult to get any water. However, there are so many choices available, you can now use this feature to really show off your style.
Vintage-style bathrooms will look great with brass accessories and you could even get an old-fashioned-looking detachable shower that sits on a stand over the bath taps, much like an antique telephone. Of course, there are also plenty of contemporary options available so you can get the style of a time gone by but with the functionality of today.
If your bathroom is modern in appearance, there are just as many designs that are likely to catch your eye. Stainless steel is always a popular option as the gleaming metal makes bathrooms look light and bright, while a cube shape makes a real statement and looks great with a suite that is a similar style.
Mirror
No bathroom is complete without a mirror and this is an item you use everyday, from applying makeup or shaving to brushing your teeth. This is perhaps the accessory you have the most choice with when it comes to available products.
If you want a quirky designer look, you could purchase an antique mirror to act as a feature in the room. Alternatively, you can get creative and make your own by building a frame for a basic mirror out of bits of leftover tile from your walls or floor. When space is on the small side, it is best to double up on features by investing in a cupboard with mirrored doors.
Towel rail
This is far from a luxury item and is actually a very practical addition to your washroom. Even if you have a radiator already, you may wish to consider this fixture as it will make the space warmer and give you a dedicated storage area for your linen.
As well as being practical, today's towel rails are also extremely stylish. Again, there are vintage-inspired options available, some of which combine the metal bars of a rail with a traditional-looking white radiator. Alternatively, there are ultra-modern designs that look more like art than a heating device.
In addition to keeping your towels warm, they also help to maintain a pleasant temperature in the room, so steam will take more time to turn to liquid. This means that when you are finished in the shower, you can open the window and let the steam escape before it condenses and clings to the walls - which can potentially cause mould.
Shower enclosures
These are another must-have accessory in the bathroom as they ensure you do not splash water all over the floor, and help trap steam within the vicinity of the bath. However, it's not all about practicality and many of the doors on the market today are also extremely stylish.
If you have a narrow bathroom, opt for a panel you can slide open as opposed to one that opens outwards, as this will use up less space.
